こんにちは、仲間のみなさん！
きょう、みなさんとご一緒できて光栄です。この「第1回IBSAアジア視覚障害者ボウリング大会」を発案し実現させるために献身的にご尽力くださった方々の一員に加えていただけるということは大変名誉なことです。
これは、視覚障害者のためのボウリング競技の普及、またアジアにおける国際視覚障害者スポーツ連盟（IBSA）のスポーツ振興事業として、まさに歴史的な瞬間なのです。本大会は、当地区でははじめてのIBSA大会となります。他の競技ではまだ行われておりません。
本日の第1回アジア・ボウリング大会に参加するために、アジア５カ国から計30名以上の視覚障害選手が集まっているということを知りおおいに勇気づけられました。しかしながら、おそらくさらに重要なことは、これらの参加各国において相当数のＢ１選手が出場したという事実であります。それこそ、まさに本スポーツが奨励したいと望んでいたことなのです。
日本のホスト団体の方々がこの歴史的IBSA大会を企画準備するために与えてくださったご助力、そしてアジア各国によるご支援に感謝いたします。みなさまのご尽力なくしては、本大会の実現は可能にならなかったはずです。
また、当大会を主催なさっているということは、日本が今後視覚障害者ボウリング競技普及にむけての世界的規模の運動に積極的にかかわっていく幕開けを意味するものと確信しております。日本は、視覚障害者ボウリング促進、ことにアジア太平洋地域における普及のために重要な役割を果たすことが出来ると強く信じております。いずれ近い将来、日本が世界大会を準備実現させてくださることを願っています。
本日の大会で競い合うみなさんに心に留めておいていただきたいことがあります。みなさんは、この歴史的瞬間を彩る一員であり、すでに勝者なのです。メダルを得るかどうかに関わらず、みなさんが新しいスポーツを習得し、それを通していろいろな国からの新しい友達と知り合いになったということこそが重要なのです。
きょうからの4日間、参加者全員のために祈ります。

Good afternoon my friends!
It is my privilege to be with all of you today. It is a great honour to be part of a dedicated team that has brought the idea of a 1st IBSA Asian Blind Tenpin Bowling Championships to reality.
This is a historical moment in the development of Tenpin Bowling for the blind, and in particular, blind sports development for IBSA in Asia. This Championship is the first ever IBSA championship of any sport in this continent.
I am encouraged to know that there are more than thirty blind bowlers from five Asian countries participating in this first continental championship for the sport. Perhaps more importantly, the participating countries have entered a significant number of B1 bowlers which is what the sport hopes to encourage.
I am grateful to the assistance given by the Japanese host organizations to organise this historical championship for IBSA and the support given to the Championship by the participating Asian countries. Without all of your support, this Championship will not have been possible.
I trust that the hosting of this Championship will mark the beginning of Japan's active involvement in the worldwide movement to promote Tenpin Bowling for the blind. I strongly believe that Japan can play an instrumental role in the promotion of Tenpin Bowling for the blind, especially in the Asia Pacific region. It is my wish to see Japan organising a world championship in the foreseeable future.
For those of you who are competing in this Championship, remember that you are already winners for being part of this historical moment. Whether you win a medal or not, the important thing is that you have learnt to play a new sport and gotten to know new friends from different countries through it.
May I wish all of you happy bowling for the next four days!

第１回IBSAアジア視覚障害者ボウリング大会が、アジアの各国からの選手の皆様のご参加を得て、国際視覚障害者スポーツ連盟テンピンボウリング委員会の主催のもとに盛大に開催されますことは、誠に喜ばしく、心よりお祝い申し上げます。
障害を持つ人々が競技スポーツに関心を持たれ、国境を越えた交流により、自己の能力の限界に挑戦されますことに、深い敬意を表します。
ボウリングは、スポーツの中で誰もが楽しむことのできる身近なスポーツであります。私達が組織する世界テンピンボウリング連盟には９８の国と地域が加盟しておりますが、この大会が第１回大会として更にその輪を拡げ、全世界に振興しますよう祈念するものであります。
この大会にご参加の皆様は、日頃の練習の成果を十分に発揮され、素晴らしい記録を達成されますよう、又、この大会が楽しい思い出に残るものとなりますよう切望いたします。
終わりに、この大会開催を主催されます委員会、ご後援、ご支援されました関係の方々、会場の東京ポートボウルに感謝申し上げ、ご挨拶といたします。

It is my great pleasure to see 1st IBSA Asian Blind Tenpin Bowling Championships is organized by Tenpin Bowling Technical Sub-Committee of International Blind Sports Federation and will take place, inviting bowlers from countries and regions in Asian area. Please accept my hearty congratulations.
I would say I have a great respect for the disabled who are involved in competitive sports, and who are trying to push their limits.
Bowling is, among others, a popular sport. Everyone can enjoy it. World Tenpin Bowling Association, in which we are involved, consists of 98 countries and regions. I hope this first championship will result in a great success and blind bowling will be promoted all over the world.
Good luck, bowlers! I hope you will demonstrate what you have done for this championship, and set a remarkable record. Also I hope this championship will be a good memory to you all.
In conclusion, I'd like to express my appreciation for the effort by the organizer, supporters, assistants, volunteers and Tokyo Port Bowl, who offered the center. Without their support, this championship would have never come true.

2003年12月4日〜7日に東京の東京ポートボウルにおいて開催される視覚障害者選手権大会の選手の皆様に、心から歓迎の言葉を申し上げます。
私は障害をもった方々が消極的にならず、積極的にレクリエーション活動やスポーツ活動にいそしむことは良いことだと思います。そして視覚障害の方々に私どもの競技を選んでいただいたことをこの上ない誇りに存じます。 視覚障害の方々のこの大会が実現するのは国際視覚障害者スポーツ連盟テンピンボウリング委員会、財団法人 全日本ボウリング協会および視覚障害者ボウリング・コングレス・ジャパンの方々の献身的な努力のおかげです。この機会に感謝の言葉を申し上げ、同時に大会の成功をお祈り申し上げます。そして選手の皆さん、あなた方にもグッドラック、健闘をお祈り致します。

It is with the greatest pleasure that on behalf of Asian Bowling Federation I extend a warm welcome to all the competitors of the Blind People's Championships held in Tokyo Port Bowl, Tokyo from December 4-7, 2003.
People who are handicapped should not stop being active. They should participate in recreational and sport activities. We are most proud that our sport has been taken up by the blind people. I would like to take this opportunity to thank IBSA Tenpin Bowling Sub-Committee, Japan Bowling Congress, and Blind Bowling Congress Japan for their commitments and dedications in organizing this competition for the blind people and I wish them every success in this tournament. To the participants, I also wish you good luck and good bowling.

「第1回IBSAアジア視覚障害者ボウリング大会」の開催を、我が国ボウリング場経営者を代表して心よりお祝いを申しあげます。
アジアにおける視覚障害者のボウリング競技普及と視覚障害ボウリング関係者の国境を越えた交流、障害者をとりまくスポーツ環境の充実、および障害者の自己実現と社会参加の促進を目的として、アジア各国からの皆様が日本の首都である東京にお集まりになり、このように盛大に大会が開催されますことに、深い感銘を覚えますと共に、世界大会も開催されているとお聞きし、大きな敬意を表するところでございます。
公益法人（社団法人）である弊協会は、常日頃から“生涯スポーツ”として多くの方々に支持されている“ボウリング”を通して、社会貢献に務めるよう活動を展開しており、その一環として障害者と健常者が“共に生きる”福祉社会の一層の充実を目指し、三笠宮寛仁親王殿下と信子妃殿下の温かいご理解とご指導のもと｢宮様チャリティーボウリング大会」を毎年開催しており、今年も１１月２９日〜３０日に第３７回大会を開催したところでございます。
全世界的に、視覚障害者の皆様のスポーツへの参加がますます盛んになってまいり、ボウリングもその一翼を担っていることを、本当に嬉しく思っているところでございます。今後は、各施設に対し受け入れ態勢の整備を、強く啓蒙して参りたいと考えております。
本大会にご出場選手皆様方の精一杯のご活躍をお祈り申し上げますとともに、ご支援ご協力の皆様方へも感謝を申しあげます。

First of all, on behalf of all the bowling proprietors in our country, I would like to express my sincere congratulations on your success in opening this 1st IBSA Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships today.
People from different Asian countries have gathered in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, for this wonderful occasion. I have heard that your purposes are to promote bowling among blind people in Asia and to make friendly connections with those in other countries who are interested in bowling. In addition, you aim to improve sports-related environments for the blind and to help make self-realization and full participation in society easier for them. I am deeply impressed. I have also heard that there are world championships as well. I would like to express my deep respect.
Being a public-service corporation, Bowling Proprietors' Association of Japan makes daily efforts to make social contributions through bowling, which is a sport loved by many people as a life-long sport. One example is our annual Miyasama (Royal) Charity Bowling Championship under the guidance of and with the warm support from Their Highnesses Prince Tomohito and Princess Nobuko of Mikasa-no-Miya. This year that championship was held for the 37th time on November 29 and 30.
I am truly happy to see that more and more blind people participate in various sport events all over the world and that bowling is one of them. It is my belief that we should urge all the bowling proprietors to provide their alleys with the necessary equipment and to get ready to welcome you any time.
I wish good luck to all the participant bowlers here. I would also like to express my appreciation to those who have worked hard to realize this tournament and to those who have given them their support.
Finally, I would like to conclude my speech by wishing that you will accomplish your true goals today; to enjoy bowling together and to strengthen the ties of friendship and goodwill.

選手のみなさん、役員のみなさん、第１回IBSAアジア視覚障害者ボウリング大会へようこそ。
この大会が日本の東京で開催できることはたいへん喜ばしいことであり名誉なことです。
2002年に第１回の世界大会がヘルシンキで開催されました。その歴史的な大会に引き続き、第１回のアジア大会を開催できることをたいへんうれしく思います。
近年、アジア地域でも競技スポーツとしてのボウリングが普及してきました。今回、練習場所やガイドレールの確保、経済的な問題など多くの不十分な環境を乗り越えて、５カ国が参加できたことはアジア地域における視覚障害者のボウリングへの関心の高さを示しています。
この大会を開催するにあたり、多方面からのご後援をいただきました。深く感謝いたします。また、共同で主管をしていただく財団法人全日本ボウリング協会を始め、ご協力や協賛いただいた団体や企業、審判員・補助員・ボランティア・その他この大会の成功に向けて協力していただいた多くの方々にこの場を借りてお礼申し上げます。みなさまのご支援なくしてはこのような大会を開催することは不可能でした。
選手のみなさんにはぜひ日頃の練習の成果を十分に発揮していただき、スポーツを通して友情を深めていただきたいと思います。この大会がみなさんにとって記憶に残るすばらしい大会になることを祈念いたします。

Good afternoon, team officials, bowlers, ladies and gentleman. Welcome to the 1st IBSA Asian Blind Tenpin Bowling Championships. We are glad and honoured this ground-breaking event is being held in our beloved city of Tokyo.
The first Tenpin World Championship for the visually impaired took place in Helsinki in year 2002. Following the lead from that watershed event, we are pleased to bring to you this first Blind Tenpin bowling event for Asian athletes.
Tenpin bowling has been promoted as a competitive sport in Asia in recent years. Interest in tenpin bowling among the visually impaired is apparent. We have with us today representatives from five Asian countries. These fellow bowling enthusiasts overcome challenging conditions, such as the lack of bowling centres and guide rails, and financial difficulties, to make it here with us today.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all the organisations who have provided their generous support toward today's championship. Let me also thank the co-host of this important event - the Japan Bowling Congress, and all the other organisations and companies which have come forward to provide assistance and sponsorship. Let us give a round of applause to the umpires, volunteers, and many others who have worked, and are still working, to make this event successful. Without them, this championship would not have been possible.
To all the bowlers taking part in today's competition, I wish you all the very best. I hope you will show us the skills you have acquired after much training. Most of all, I hope you will enjoy the company of your friends and just have a good time.
May this championship be an enjoyable and memorable event for every one of you here.
